The Highland Jazz and Blues Festival is a free community event produced annually by the Highland Area Partnership, a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating and connecting the community through music, food, and the arts. The festival features a live art competition called “Clash of the Artists” that showcases four (4) selected local artists who will compete for the opportunity to work on poster design for the 2023 Highland Jazz and Blues Festival. Winner will receive bragging rights and a $250 cash prize. The 18th Annual Highland Jazz and Blues Festival date is Saturday, September 17, 2022 and is located in the heart of the Highland Cultural District at Columbia Park in Shreveport, Louisiana.
ELIGIBILITY: All painters are eligible to apply here. Any medium is fine.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Applications for artists will be accepted through the Highland Jazz and Blues Festival website application. Application information to include contact information, artist headshot, artist statement, three (3) images of artist work and links to artist website/social media.
ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS: The artwork made at the festival must include the Highland Jazz and Blues Festival mascot, Jazzy the bird, and space must be left for insertion of logo and festival information. The artist will need to create the concept and reference. Winning artwork must be professionally photographed and rights to use artwork must be given to the festival. Artwork may be sold after the festival receives the professional photographed image.

TIMELINE: Entries will be open from July 26 - August 5, 2022. Voting will take place from August 8 through August 19, 2022. The top four (4) artists will be announced August 22, 2022. The Clash of the Artists competition will take place at theHighland Jazz and Blues Festival on Saturday, September 17, 2022 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
SELECTION PROCESS: Artist submissions will be highland on the Highland Jazz and Blues Festival Facebook page and top four (4) artists will be chosen by public vote via the Highland Jazz and Blues Festival Facebook page. The Clash of the Artists competition at the festival will be juried by a panel of art experts. One artist will be declared the winner and the artist, along with the artwork, will be showcased on the main stage prior to the headlining act.
NOTIFICATION TO ARTISTS: Acceptance notification dates are August 15 - August 16, 2022. Accepted artists will be notified by email. Notification will also be made by email to those that were not accepted.
ARTIST AMENITIES: The four (4) accepted artists will receive free 10 x 10 booth space to sell their art near the Clash of the Artists tent, spotlight on social media, one (1) VIP pass for day of event which includes free food and beverages. Canvas and easel will be provided to the top four (4) for the competition. The top ten (10) artist submissions will receive a $10.00 discount on booth space at the festival.
ARTIST REQUIREMENTS: The four (4) participating artists will be responsible for essential art supplies (i.e. brushes, paint, tools, etc.) The festival will provide the canvas and easel. The artist will need to supply a 10 x 10 tent and other foundations (i.e. tables, chairs, etc.) needed to sell their art. The artist is responsible for booth coverage during the competition. The festival will provide a tent large enough for all artists to be covered during the competition.
SALES: All sales are handled by the artists. The Highland Jazz and Blues Festival does not collect commission on sales. Artist is responsible for collecting and submitting state and city sales taxes.
PRIZES: Award of a $250.00 cash prize will be given to the Clash of the Artist competition winner.
SECURITY: The Highland Jazz and Blues Festival will provide 24-hour on-site security, but can not assume liability for damage, loss, or theft.
PUBLICITY: Participation in the Clash of the Artist competition offers visibility and exposure. Your social media links will be used to promote to our followers. Your artist statement and images will be listed on social media.
